What is Greeny? Kirk Hammett Explains The Legendary Gibson Sound 🎸

In 2014, Metallica's Kirk Hammett purchased "Greeny," a legendary 1959 Les Paul Standard, for approximately $2 million. The historic instrument was previously played by blues-rock icons Peter Green and Gary Moore. It is famous for a distinct, out-of-phase middle-position tone created by an inverted neck pickup magnet. Hammett still regularly performs with the original guitar, which has inspired official replica lines from Gibson and Epiphone.
