These classic Van Halen riffs are much easier to play when the right tone is on hand. I used to think that if I just had a great distortion pedal, I'd be able to play any and every rock/metal riff & solo authentically with no issues.
But since I purchased a Line 6 Helix back in 2018, I was able to have a different tone for every player I was learning/covering. This freed me up from the limiting thinking of "one amp must do all".
From this point onwards, with all my covers, not only will I have a completely bespoke tone for each player, but also each song.
I can't begin to describe how much easier it makes reproducing their parts when you have a similar instrument and tone philosophy.
Best of all, using an amp modeller allows you to add post FX, just like our heroes often did in the studio.
The level of control achieved by using AmpliTube (or whatever your chosen modeller is), is just incredible, and enables an average joe to chisel the tone from every angle until it's ideal.
Sure, I'd love to own an entire rig for every shredder I cover, but this is so much more affordable and doesn't require a warehouse 😎
